Noisey have just posted a new episode of their ongoing British Masters series, hosted by tQ’s John Doran. In the second episode of the second season, John talks to Viv Albertine, who last year released her critically acclaimed memoir Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys., about her relationship to punk and alternative culture, her taste in "very cool, underground music", the origins of Cut‘s iconic cover and her economic use of the "C Word".
Throughout the interview, Albertine proves remarkably candid. Commenting on today’s social environment: "We don’t really have a counterculture, an alternative culture, that goes against consumerism, and capitalism, and the establishment and buying a house and that side of things." Later, when discussing a particularly difficult chapter of her book detailing her efforts to get pregnant, she says, "it was madness, and I did descend into madness trying." Watch above.
