Vision Fortune recently announced their second album, Country Music. It’ll be out on February 9 and marks their first release for ATP Recordings. On first impression, that title may seem an odd one for a London-based three-piece hewing a particularly intensive form of drone, but the album’s genesis offers a few clues. "Confined in an expansive country villa for the duration of the project, the group soon found the breathtaking beauty of the area little compensation for the almost complete lack of wheat-and/or gluten-free products, a severely limited selection of DVDs, and minimal recording equipment," says the press release. "Only able to record in scant free hours, and forced to make the most of their immediate sonic environment, the group often had no choice but to forgo their simple daily routines of sampling local gastronomic delicacies and honing their horse-riding skills in order to complete the album." They’ve already unveiled one track off the record, ‘Dry Mouth’, a terse, metallic-sounding (perhaps the "sound of silverware chiming against fine china bowls of foie gras d’oie", that) sinewy sketch; take a listen at the foot of the piece. However, after that life of well-appointed seclusion, it’s clear that the band needed to let off steam, hence this excellent mix they’ve done for us, appointed with another apt title, ‘Let’s Get This Party Started’. After the Pink track it opens with, encasing that very sentiment in one, it’d be fair to say it’s not a PBR-doused blowout, more a low-key deep listening party, making its way through some choice cuts from Ashley Paul, Grouper, Inga Copeland, Katie Gately and ending with a powerhouse from Nisennenmondai.
