Vini Reilly & Dave Haslam In Conversation

Reilly to be interviewed by Manchester stalwart Dave Haslam, followed by performance of a previously unreleased song at event in Manchester on Sunday

Vini Reilly will be in conversation with author and DJ Dave Haslam at Manchester Town Hall this Sunday, March 3.

Haslam will be interviewing him onstage about his life and work and as a finale to the evening he will be playing, solo and in the aftermath of his debilitating strokes, for the first time for nearly two years, performing a song never before recorded or released.

The event marks the final days of sale for the Thirty One Songs, a compilation album released in February 2012 to raise money for CALM, the charity that helps to prevent male suicide. Among the artists featured on the album are Elbow, Everything Everything, I Am Kloot, Delphic, JP Cooper and Durutti Column.

Alongside the interview with Reilly, there’ll be appearances by special guests JP Cooper and John Bramwell, who will be performing an exclusive set of acoustic songs. Tickets are just £7; for more details and to get hold of them, head here.

Speaking about the event, Dave Haslam says: "When I asked Vini if he would donate a track to Thirty One Songs he was more than enthusiastic and his interest in the project and in CALM has been intense. We talked about finding a way for him to share his thoughts and experiences of depression, and illness and this event is that chance. I think it’s helped focus his mind as he recovers from his strokes.

"Then he said: ‘Also can I play a song?’ For the audience I think it’ll be both emotional and inspiring. Vini says the event will be painful for him, in all ways, but I’m in awe of his determination to get through this. For my part, I found the most beautiful room in Manchester to host the event. Vini deserves nothing less."
