Tri Angle producer talks us through his collaboration for the Late at Tate Britain event last year

Last October, the Tate Britain hosted Made In Transition, a night of audio-visual performances themed around transition. One of those taking part was Bristol-based producer Seb Gainsborough, aka Vessel, fresh off the back of releasing his excellent second album, Punish, Honey on Tri Angle, working with members of Liverpool’s Immix Ensemble and visual artist Sam Wiehl. Now, courtesy of Noisey and Philips’ You Need To Hear This series, we’ve got a short film about the event.

Gainsborough discusses how the collaborators took up the idea of contemporaneity as a leaping-off point: "At the time that the saxophone was made, the telegraph was invented, so transitioning in terms of communication [so] we structured the piece as a kind of call-and-response between myself and the saxophone and the violin." He also talks about adapting to playing in the space of Tate Britain (as well as getting a bit more credibility in his dad’s eyes for performing there) and how taking a conceptual approach was a departure from his normal work process. Take a look at the video above.
