Unsound Reveals 2021 Festival Theme, ‘Dəəp Authentic’

This year's edition of the annual event will combine online and in-person events

Unsound has confirmed the dates and theme for its 2021 festival.

The theme, dəəp authentic, is described as Unsound’s "response to a hyperreal situation." It will involve a combination of online and in-person events, which will take place in the festival’s home of Kraków this October, and follows on from last year’s entirely online edition.

Organisers have said that this year’s event will be "far more compact and more local" than previous ones, and the programme will "consider methods of twisting, upending or even breaking the presentation of live music and sound."

As with previous Unsound editions, organisers are calling on artists, writers, activists and others to respond to the theme, by proposing a project to be presented as part of the festival’s programme for 2021. Between three and five entries will be selected to take part in this year’s festival, and each will receive a fee of 2000 PLN. As ongoing pandemic restrictions are uncertain, particularly with regards to travel, proposed works can be presented in Kraków or remotely. Find more information about how to get involved here.

Unsound will take place from October 13 to 17, 2021.
