Unsound has outlined its plans for 2025.
The festival will once again host its flagship event in Kraków, with the dates set for October 7 to 12. Ahead of that, there will be a weekend of programming in Osaka from September 5 to 7, while a further weekend of music and more will follow in New York from October 30 to November 2.
The lineup for all three events is yet to be announced, but Unsound has revealed that they will all be connected by this year’s theme: ‘WEB’. “The theme is multifold,” Unsound said, offering further context. “In a global context, WEB refers to the building of cultural networks across borders, zones and scenes, a longtime mission of Unsound that becomes increasingly challenging in the face of geopolitical rupture and reconfiguration.”
The festival’s mission statement for 2025 continued: “Of course, WEB also references the internet (especially in its first couple of decades; usage of the word ‘web’ peaked in the mid-2000s) and its optimistic air of radical possibility. Today, the internet feels like a spider’s trap, part of a wider online and IRL matrix of control, seduction, coercion and desire – with all of us the prey.”
Unsound says it will explore this concept via a series of special performance commissions, as well as a discourse programme of talks, panel discussions and more.
