Unsound 2013: UR, Dean Blunt & More

Next set of names for Krakow festival is looking tasty indeed - Underground Resistance, Anthony Naples, Dean Blunt, and more

As we’ve previously reported, the line-up for this year’s Krakow edition of Unsound Festival, under the theme Interference, is shaping up very nicely, with Demdike Stare & Andy Stott, DJ Qu, Earth, Forest Swords, Porter Ricks and many more (see full list here). They’ve also recently announced the inaugural London edition of the festival, which runs from 26th-29th September and features a host of Polish acts including Quietus favourites Stara Rzeka – for full line-up details, click here.

Now they’ve announced a raft more names for Krakow’s festival, which runs from 13th-20th October, and in keeping with the previous set of announcements there’s some killer stuff here. Chief among them are Detroit techno renegades Underground Resistance, appearing for the first time ever in Poland and presenting their Interstellar Fugitives show.

US composers Rhys Chatham and Charlemagne Palestine (read our recent interview with the latter here) will be performing together, which will be the first time they’ve worked together in 30 years. Their show will take place in St. Katherine’s Church alongside Julianna Barwick.

Irish black metal band Altar of Plagues will be playing their last ever show at the festival, and a few names from the noise-oriented end of the spectrum have also been added: Pan Sonic’s Mika Vainio, Wolf Eyes’ Nate Young and Poland’s Anna Zaradny. There’s B/B/S/ – a "cross border Norwegian/Canadian/Italian ‘superground’ featuring Erik Skodvin (of Deaf Centre), Aidan Baker (of Nadja) and Andrea Belfi, forging a dark, sometimes rhythmic sound veering from drone to dub out of guitar, percussion and synth".

James Ferraro will be launching his new album NYC, Hell 3:00AM, while Hype Williams’ Dean Blunt will be performing this year’s The Redeemer album, which made it into our albums of the year so far. The latter show requires that ticketholders buy an extra, special ticket for the show due to the venue’s small size, which costs 20 PLN (about £5). Also added are Arca, Mykki Blanco, Gobby, rising NY house head Anthony Naples, L.I.E.S’ resident producer of splattery acid trax Svengalisghost and Dutch DJ/producer I-F (Interr-ference).

The festival’s week and weekend passes recently sold out, but they’re releasing a limited number of extra tickets this week – they’re on sale at 11am Krakow time today. There will also be individual tickets available for each event, which will go on sale in August.
