Mysterious Cambridge crew Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, who run a neat line in lo-fi, Hammer Horror-fried psych/garage/doom, have announced that they are to release a brand new 7" single entitled ‘Poison Apple’ via Rise Above on 18th March. It’s described in the press release as "monstrously catchy", and "offer[ing] a glimpse into their exciting dark melodic realm and fuzzorama enhanced tales of terror and horror of what is to come".
The release of brand new material from Uncle Acid and co will come as good news for the many listeners who’ve been snagged by their behemoth of an LP Blood Lust, which crash-landed without warning in the upper echelons of our favourite albums of 2011. We described it thus: "Violent, druggy and hammy, its nine tracks – thick, groovy, riff-driven things, practically dripping with THC – are recorded in brow-beaten low-fidelity for an appropriately cracked, B-movie sort of feel." In the meantime they’ve let scant few details go about themselves and their operations, even convincingly maintaining an enigmatic front through our interview with Uncle Acid himself last year.
This new single arrives in advanced of a promised new album, which all being well will be released at some point this year. It also heralds their utterly sold out debut London shows at the Garage on 22nd and 23rd March, which the Uncle himself promised to be "a night of madness", saying: "We look forward to finally bringing our shambolic show of misery and disappointment to the thugs and thieves of old London town."
