Turbonegro Record LP With Matt Sweeney

New record will be done in 2012

Cult Norwegian deathpunks Turbonegro have announced that they are to record a new album with studio legend Matt Sweeney.

It will be their first album since 2007’s Retox and the recorded debut of new singer, The Duke Of Nothing, Tony Sylvester.

The band are currently writing in Oslo and will decamp to New York´s Electric Lady Studios in January to let Matt Sweeney at their work.

Sweeney, who has been Rick Rubin´s right hand man and worked with Cat Power, Adele, Neil Diamond and Bonnie Prince Billy, said: "I am looking forward to the greatest challenge of my life in making the next Turbonegro album, and I expect to find out exactly how much pleasure one man can take."

Band mainstay Happy Tom added: "Matt´s bio reads like a perfect storm of coolness! He´s the hardcore punk kid who went on to work with Johnny Cash!"

The as yet unnamed album of 13 new songs includes ‘(You Gimme) Worms’, ‘Nihilistic Army’, ‘Loose Leash Tight Jeans’ and ‘Dude Without A Face’.

Newest recruit, Tony Sylvester added: "I’m really, really stoked that Matt is doing the record – I think that the Superwolf record he did with Bonnie Prince Billy was one of Will Oldham’s finest hours, and I also knew of him via David Tibet, but I didn’t realise how much stuff he’d been involved with… I met him when Turbo played at Santos Party House in November and we drunkenly bonded over a love of early Slade. I consider this a good sign."

The band will be releasing the album in late May before embarking on a world tour. More details to follow in 2012.
