On June 17, Tripwires release their debut album Spacehopper via Frenchkiss Records, and we’ve got an exclusive first play of LP track ‘Catherine, I Feel Sick’ – listen via the embed below.
It’s a spacey, dazed-out affair, basking in equal parts 60s psych-pop and Talk Talk’s spacious soundscapes. The band starting up playing Slipknot covers in their hometown of Reading, of which they say: "A lot of people live here a couple years for work and then move on. For us, it’s been a great place to write music. Not as a direct result of the environment around us, but in a way that’s encouraged us to provide our very own soundtrack to growing up".
However, having explored a wider array of listening material, citing the aforementioned Talk Talk’s Spirit Of Eden and Aphrodite’s Child’s 666 as foundational, the band relocated to New York to record the album. There, they had Nicolas Vernhes on knob-twiddling duties, which, considering his excellent turn on Marnie Stern’s recent album The Chronicles Of Marnia, promises good things – stay tuned to the site for more.
