tQ writer JR Moores is publishing a book focused on the evolution of ‘heavy music’ this September.
Electric Wizards: A Tapestry Of Heavy Music, 1968 To The Present charts more than five decades of music at the heavier end of the spectrum, covering genres such as post-punk, industrial, grunge, stoner rock and much more. Beginning with The Beatles ‘Helter Skelter’, Moores rolls through the likes of Black Sabbath, Faust, Sleep and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs to offer an insight into "how each successive phase of heavy music was forged by what came before," a press release says.
The 480-page book, publisher Reaktion says, "extols those who did things differently, who introduced something fresh and exciting into this elemental tradition, whether by design, accident or sheer chance," and looks to household names as well as cult figures.
