Over the past few years we’ve marked the end of summer with a pilgrimage to Muncaster Castle in the Lake District for Sea Power’s annual Krankenhaus Festival. We’ll be off there in a few weeks for the fourth instalment of Krankenhaus, which features sets by Sea Power themselves, alongside many of our favourite contemporary artists, including Hey Colossus, Nadine Shah, Teeth of the Sea, Lias Saoudi, Goat Girl, the ERC featuring Maxine Peake, Free Love, Mozart Estate, Senyawa, Snapped Ankles, The Fallen Women. In the talks programme our John Doran will be doing his metal modernism presentation with Sapphire Goss and Luke Turner will be speaking to Jude Rogers about her amazing book The Sound of Being Human. What we love about Krankenhaus is how the music sinks into the landscape and surroundings – the mountains (there’s an annual fell walk – see below), the coastline, the battlements of Muncaster Castle, the nearby Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the arboretum and… there’s only a bloody owl sanctuary! Dogs are welcome, with a dog competition judged by Lias Saoudi during the weekend. You can find out more about Krankenhaus here – see you there!
