Tony Drayton, editor of Ripped & Torn, one of the longest running original UK punk fanzines, will join tQ Editor John Doran at the Stoke Newington Literary Festival this Sunday (June 9) to discuss its republication in anthology form and legacy.
Drayton began the fanzine in 1976 in a small town outside of Glasgow. In just three years the publication would span 17 issues, chronicling the progression of the punk movement, as well as Drayton’s own maturation as both a creator and person.
The complete anthology, published by Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz’s Ecstatic Peace Library, features all 17 issues. Besides a short interview between Moore and Drayton, the rest of the content remains untouched, presented without any context or revision.
The event will be held at Mortuary Chapel in Stoke Newington. You can buy tickets here.
Since 2010, the Stoke Newington Literary Festival has been celebrating diverse, radical literature. This year, it runs from June 6-9 and features a variety of events and speakers, including tQ favourites like David Toop, Dorian Lynskey, Tracey Thorn and Stephen Morris.
