Tokyo Club Contact To Close In September

The much-loved venue is being lost to an urban redevelopment project

Tokyo club Contact, one of the city’s most loved electronic music venues, is closing for good in September.

A statement shared today (March 24) by the team behind the venue said the venue is being forced to shut because the building housing it is being demolished as part of an urban redevelopment project. The club’s final party will happen on Saturday, September 17.

"Unfortunately, nothing concrete has been decided yet regarding our future status," said the venue’s statement. "We have only half a year left, but it would mean a great deal for us to have as many people make as many memorable nights as possible with the time we have left."

Contact opened in 2016, and went on to become one of Tokyo’s key clubs for electronic music, welcoming touring and local DJs, such as DJ Sprinkles, Optimo, Objekt, DJ Nobu, Theo Parrish and lots more.

The club will mark its sixth anniversary next month, the first time it has been able to do so since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a pair of parties, featuring local acts as well as DJ Harvey, who will be Contact’s first international guest since the pandemic first forced its closure.
