Time Capsule Reveals Collection Of ’70s And ’80s Japanese Reggae

'Tokyo Riddim' will be released in September

Reissue label Time Capsule is lining up the release of a compilation featuring Japanese reggae produced in the ’70s and ’80s.

The record, titled Tokyo Riddim 1976-1985, "captures the moment J-reggae entered the broader public consciousness, merging commercial city pop style with an infectious backbeat," according to a press statement shared by Time Capsule. It forms the latest instalment of the London-based label’s Nippon Series which explores Japanese music scenes from between the 1960s and 2010s, and follows on from 2022’s Anime & Manga Synth Pop Soundtracks 1984-1990. You can listen to compilation cut ‘電子レンジ (Denshi Lenzi)’, by Miki Hiarayama, just below.

Time Capsule will release Tokyo Riddim 1976-1985 on September 22, 2023.
