Tim Burgess Details New Album, ‘Typical Music’

The 22-track double album was made alongside Thighpaulsandra and Daniel O'Sullivan

Tim Burgess has shared details of his fifth solo studio album, Typical Music.

Out in September, the 22-track double album was recorded alongside Thighpaulsandra and Daniel O’Sullivan, and saw Burgess return to Monmouthshire’s Rockfield studios, at which he recorded much of The Charlatans’ material in the 1990s. The announcement of the new album follows on from the release in April of single ‘Here Comes The Weekend’, which features on the record. Above, you can watch a video for the album’s newly unveiled title track.

In a statement about Typical Music, Burgess said: "OK, we all know about double albums, right? Historically, they’ve been thought of as indulgent. But I came to the conclusion that what I was doing was the opposite of that. I wanted to give people everything that I’d done. And everything that I brought to the studio and worked on with the guys, I coloured them all in equally. Every idea was treated as if it was the best thing and had to be treated with extreme care. I wanted to give everything of myself. That was it."

Bella Union will release Typical Music on September 23, 2022.
