Throwing Snow, aka London producer Ross Tones, has something of a colossal workload: last year he put out the first album, A Small Murmuration, by Snow Ghosts, his collaborative project with Augustus Ghost, on Fabric’s Houndstooth label, as well as continuing work with his brother Alistair as Vellico and his own junglist guise Alight. Now, he’s managed to find time to put together a new EP, Pathfinder, out on March 24, also on Houndstooth, ahead of his debut album, set to follow later this year.
As the press release notes, the EP should give a taste of what’s to come from the full-length, adding that "the intention of Pathfinder is to be listened to during journeys", following the churn of the opener ‘The Tempest’, featuring Adda Kaleh (listen below), and the prevailing calm of the title track with ‘Caedis’, a cut that works up from aerated music box loops and violin to an unsettled, jagged synth line hooked around a stomping downbeat.
