Throbbing Gristle Share Rare Recording, ‘The Third Mind: First Movement’

The eight-minute piece was previously only made available on a CD release sold on the group's final US tour in 2009

Throbbing Gristle have shared a rare recording ahead of the reissue next month of two releases from the group’s back catalogue.

‘The Third Mind: First Movement’, which you can listen to below, is an eight-minute piece which Throbbing Gristle recorded during their ICA Desertshore sessions in 2007. It was only made publicly available on a CD release, The Third Mind Movements, sold on the group’s final US tour in 2009.

As announced last month, the group are now lining up reissues of that release and TGCD1, a 42-minute collection of studio recordings captured at the group’s Martello Street studio on an 8-Track recorder in March 1979. The new editions of both records will mark the first time that they have been made available on vinyl, while they are also set to be released on CD and digitally.

Mute will release TGCD1 and The Third Mind Movements on August 23, 2024.
