Prepare for more Thom Yorke news as it has emerged that the Radiohead frontman recently compared YouTube and Google to Nazi Germany.
In an interview with Italy’s La Repubblicae, Yorke managed to fire a criticism at both companies following on from a question about how he finds music – Boomkat is the answer.
“All I know is that they make money from the work of many artists who do not derive any benefit,” Yorke said. “Service providers make money: Google, YouTube. A lot of money. ‘Oh, sorry, it was yours? Now it is ours. No, no, we are joking, it is always yours.’ They seize it.”
Yorke then goes the extra mile, saying: “It’s like what the Nazis did during the second world war. In fact they all did that during the war, the British too: steal the art from other countries. What’s the difference?”
The interview comes after recent activity from the Radiohead frontman which saw him discuss his carbon footprint with the Guardian’s George Monbiot and DJ from a float, and subsequently get scared by a bell, at a Greenpeace climate change protest in London.
