Post-Punk Film Season At The BFI

Grayson Perry, Isaac Julien, Cerith Wyn Evans and more to be featured in This Is Now: Film And Video After Punk

Following on from its Derek Jarman season, the British Film Institute will be hosting ‘This Is Now: Film And Video After Punk’ described as “a selection of restored short films by post-punk artists and film-makers”. The season, commencing in April, will feature a series of largely unreleased films from Grayson Perry, John Maybury, Tina Keane, Christine Binnie, Isaac Julien, Jill Westwood, Cerith Wyn Evans and Sophie Muller. There are appearances from Public Image Limited, The Pop Group, The Slits and Siouxsie Sioux and Leigh Bowery among others in the series, with many of the films remastered from the original Super 8 and 16mm formats.

The season opens on April 4 with a performance from 23 Skidoo, playing against a backdrop "of found footage and appropriated clips, re-worked, colourised and treated to dizzying effect” followed by a DJ set from Don Letts. Throughout the duration of the festival there will be discussions and introductions by many of the directors, including Perry, Lets, Holly Warburton and Ken Hollings. Head to the BFI for full details and tickets.
