Next week, These New Puritans release EXPANDED, a live album recorded at the Barbican in London earlier this year when the group were augmented by a 35-piece band, taking in the Synergy Vocals choir, brass, the strings of Heritage Orchestra, percussion and electronics, as well as Elisa Rodrigues, the Portuguese singer who featured on last year’s peerless Field Of Reeds and has been touring with the band.
tQ’s Luke Turner recently talked to Jack and George Barnett about the record – out next week, October 20, on limited edition vinyl from the Vinyl Factory and CD and download from Infectious – so watch the site for that, but before, they’ve unveiled the album’s final track, a new song, ‘Spitting Stars’. Making full use of the plethora of musicians it’s as fragmented and grand as the material on Field Of Reeds, but gentler at the same time, Jack intoning, "And just one thing before that, to hold you in my arms tonight", as the orchestra build to a magnificent crescendo to close proceedings. Listen above.
