In April of this year, These New Puritans played a very special set at the Barbican with the help of a 35-piece backing band. It has now been announced that the recording of that show will get its release next month as EXPANDED (Live At The Barbican) and penultimate track ‘We Want War’ is streaming above.
The set saw the band run through 2013’s album Field Of Reeds, one of our favourites of last year, in its entirety alongside brand new and older tracks, reworked especially for the show. The trio, consisting of Jack and George Barnett and Thomas Hein, played with an extended band of brass, strings and percussion, as well as Portuguese singer Elisa Rodrigues, who appeared on Field Of Reeds, and London-based vocal group Synergy Vocals, who had previously worked with Steve Reich and the London Sinfonietta. Frontman Jack Barnett has described the record, due on October 20 via Infectious Music, as being "as definitive as last year’s studio album". These New Puritans will play their last ‘TNP EXPANDED’ show for this year at The Rest Is Noise Festival in Amsterdam on September 19. Head to their website for ticket details and to pre-order the upcoming release on limited edition double vinyl or CD. Finally, head to the London Short Film Festival event at Oval Space tomorrow, where there’s a premiere of a 20-minute film of the Barbican show.
