The Replacements are reissuing their 1985 album Tim.
The original album, which marked the band’s major label debut, has been remastered especially for the new release. A 4xCD, 1xLP box set will also feature a live album recorded at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago in 1986, and 50 previously unheard tracks, including material unearthed from shelved recording sessions that the band had with Big Star’s Alex Chilton in January 1985 session. A hardcover book featuring photos from that era in the band’s history rounds out the set.
Writer Bob Mehr, the band’s biographer, said in a statement: "After nearly 40 years, Tim remains a charmed collision of intention and accident, a balance of deliberate anthems and tossed-off gems, of raucous release and refined beauty — and a record that perfectly captures the band’s fraught but always compelling ascent on the ladder of success."
Engineer Ed Stasium, who was enlisted to produce a new mix of the album from the original multi-track tapes for the reissue, added: "I really loved working on this project. It’s a great record, and now you can hear even better what’s great about it. But the best thing for me was that, in a funny and really beautiful way, I got to work with my dear friend [producer] Tommy Erdelyi [AKA Tommy Ramone] once again."
Rhino will release Tim: Let It Bleed Edition on September 22, 2023.
