The Replacements Announce New Box Set

The band's 'Don’t Tell A Soul' album will feature alongside unreleased studio and live recordings

The Replacements have announced details of a new box set release called Dead Man’s Pop.

The set will focus on the band’s 1989 album Don’t Tell A Soul, which will be presented mixed as the band intended after they were unsatisfied with the sound of the original recordings. The box set will also take in unreleased studio and live recordings from that era in the band’s history, including a session with Tom Waits and a complete concert dating back to 1989.

The unreleased recordings that feature on Dead Man’s Pop were recovered from tapes that the band took from Paisley Park studios while finishing work on Don’t Tell A Soul. They were stowed away by the group until now.

"The true spirit of The Replacements was always there on the recordings we did back in 1988, and now you can hear and feel it clearly," says Don’t Tell A Soul producer Matt Wallace. "This was the project of a lifetime for me when we recorded it 30-plus years ago, and it’s even truer today as we’ve finally fulfilled our original vision."

Rhino will release Dead Man’s Pop in CD and LP formats, including a hardcover book, on September 27. You can pre-order and find the full details of the release here.
