The Quietus Presents: WIRE At The Lexington

Supported by Factory Floor and LoneLady

The Quietus is very pleased indeed to announce that, this autumn, we’ll be hosting two rare intimate gigs from Wire at London’s 200-capacity Lexington Venue. What’s more, we’re celebrating Wire’s continued desire to innovate by putting them alongside two of our favourite artistes from the current crop of pioneers – Warp records’ eloquent minimalist, LoneLady, and London-based post-industrial trio Factory Floor. The gigs take place on Monday November 8th (Factory Floor support, tickets here) and Tuesday November 9th (LoneLady support, tickets here).

To us, Wire are one of the many groups who formed in the late-70s who have stayed true to the scorched earth policy of post punk and refused to rest on their laurels. For them, no rehashing of past glories or weary recitals of classic albums: Object 47, their last album, came out at the same time as we started the website, and was one of our albums of 2008. Gigs at the time were hard, heavy, brutal affairs, Wire’s desire for sonic misadventure butting heads with their instinct for wry pop.

In 2010, it’s all change once again. With the core trio of Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey recording a new LP, and live shows now augmented by Matt Simms of It Hugs Back, Wire look to be heading out on yet another exploration of the possibilities of pop/sound/art – the Quietus gig will be a chance to hear some of this very new material, and tracks from their 30-odd years of existing reworked into brave new forms.
