The Prodigy Rubbish Mercury Music Prize

Liam Howlett joins The Quietus in bashing award

The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett has slammed the Mercury Music Prize after his group were snubbed from this year’s shortlist.

He claimed that their latest album, Invaders Must Die, "should" have been nominated for the award.

"It’s got nothing to do with the public", he told BBC 6 Music.

"It’s to do with a panel of people that always opt for the most obscure thing."

He also critcised the judges for not recognising dance music when considering the prize even though "that’s the type of music that stirs up the emotion".

"It’s what kids listen to,” he concluded.
