The National Jazz Trio Of Scotland, the (non-jazz) ensemble led by Bill Wells, the prolific multi-instrumentalist and Aidan Moffat, Isobel Campbell and Kevin Ayers (among others) collaborator, have a new album, Standards Vol. III.
Produced for the most part in Wells’ Glasgow tenement flat, it features him deploying samples alongside three vocalists, Aby Vulliamy, Kate Sugden and Lorna Gilfedder. We’ve got a new preview of the record in the shape of Marry Waterson’s video for ‘Word Is Like An Egg’, a mixture of jazzy lounge music and quirky British jazz-prog in the vein of Robert Wyatt or Hatfield And The North, which makes good on Wells’ preference for "light and airy" music, where "the best ideas are strong melodies on interesting changes, going back to the classic songwriters."
