LISTEN: The Modern Institute On Night School

New project features members of Glasgow's Golden Teacher and General Ludd

The Modern Institute comprises members of Glasgow’s Golden Teacher and General Ludd, made up of the trio of Richard McMaster, Laurie Pitt and James Stephen Wright, and their first release arrives via the Night School Records label.

The self-titled record is streaming in full above right now, taking in strong dub and bass-heavy cues also found in the work of the three members’ other musical projects. ‘False Beards And Diamond Hooves’ is a bass-rattling, claustrophobic cut while ‘Destroy Logic’ takes in elements of dancehall in its beats, contorting around warped sound FX and synths. Influences of Cabaret Voltaire are also cited in the deadpan narration found across the record.

It’s a striking debut from the trio that will be sure to please fans of Golden Teacher’s output during their time together sharing music from The Green Door Studios in Glasgow, and you can pre-order the record if you like what you hear here. The record is out on June 30.
