LISTEN: New Memory Band Remix

First play of Belbury Poly rework of When I Was On Horseback from Record Store Day EP Further Navigations

For those who love British horror classic The Wicker Man as much for its off-kilter folk soundtrack as for the slow-building horror, this remix of The Memory Band’s ‘When I Was On Horseback’ by the Belbury Poly (aka Ghost Box label head Jim Jupp) is well worth the attention of your ears. ‘Hobby Horse’ picks out the chanting on the original, from 2013’s On The Chalk (Our Navigation Of The Line Of The Downs), and makes it the feature, buoyed along by a bouncing synth line, colouring the track in a warped medieval hue.

It’s taken from a new EP, Further Navigations, which also sees Grantby, otherwise known as producer and soundtrack composer Dan Grigson, joining them on their sonic exploration of the Harrow Way begun on last year’s album, and will be out on Static Caravan for Record Store Day on April 19.
