The ninth annual Master Musicians Of Joujouka Festival will be held from June 30 – July 2 in Morocco.
The festival welcomes guests to the Master Musicians’ village in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco to experience them performing traditional sufi trance music in an intimate setting, with spaces limited to 50.
Music is performed each evening of the festival by the Master Musicians, including the ritual performance of the half man half goat dancer, Boujeloud.
During the festival guests stay for three days in the village with the Master Musicians and their families as their hosts. Traditional home cooked and locally sourced food and refreshments are included in the ticket price, with transport provided to and from the nearest train station, Ksar El Kebir, accessible on routes from all major cities in Morocco.
The festival began in 2008 to celebrate 40 years since Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones’ visit to the village, when he recorded the Brian Jones Presents The Pipes Of Pan Of Joujouka album. For more information on the festival, head here.
The Master Musicians Of Joujouka have also announced details of their first ever tour of Japan. The group will be appearing at Festival De Frue, Shizuoka on November 3 and 4, and in Tokyo at Shibuya WWW X on November 6. Find out more here.
