Last year, synth addicts Sundae Club saw a post from our Twitter account drawing attention to an auction of one-off pieces of gear to raise money for the If Wet Village Hall arts scheme, a monthly showcase held in a small Worcester village. Band member Hamstall Ridware went ahead and bought one of the items, a voltage-divider noise-box synth made by designer Richard Windley and dubbed the ‘Step-Gen Synth’ by its creator. Now the product of that buy, a remix of ‘Almeria’, a track by Cheltenham pairing The Drunken Gentleman, is available for you to stream above.
The accordion-tinged groover also makes use of the Moog Prodigy and the original’s acoustic, laid-back guitars. Of the Windley-produced synth, Ridware says: "The noise made is vaguely square-wave, with no adjustable filter, but when switched up and down through the range, the sound appears to have a kind of oscillator sync-sweep going on, and it can sound quite aggressive". The track is available as part of Sundae Club’s The 8-Track Stereo Record which also features Matt Berry, violinist Diana Yukawa and Bill Hunt. former member of both ELO and Wizzard and can be streamed and purchased over on their Bandcamp page.
