The Charlatans’ ‘Up To Our Hips’ to be Given 30th Anniversary Reissue

An expanded edition of the album will come with added bonus tracks, all curated by Tim Burgess

The Charlatans’ 1994 album Up To Our Hips is being reissued by Beggars Arkive to mark its 30th anniversary.

Set to be made available across digital, vinyl and CD formats, the expanded edition of the band’s third studio album will take in the full original record, as well as 10 added bonus tracks, curated by frontman Tim Burgess. It will also come with brand new artwork, designed by Nik Void.

Among the bonus tracks that have been added to the release are BBC live session songs recorded for Steve Lamacq and Joe Whiley in the 90s, as well as B-sides, alternate mixes and outtakes.

In a statement, Burgess said: “Obviously this record is dedicated to both Rob [Collins] and Jon [Brookes], and I hope the expanded edition allows the listener a never-seen-before sneak peek behind the curtain at a record being made by a band in crisis.”

Originally released by Beggars Banquet, Up To Our Hips saw The Charlatans move away from the lighter, pop-influenced direction of their previous two albums to favour a darker and heavier sound. It features the single ‘Can’t Get Out Of Bed’, as well as fan favourites such as ‘I Never Want An Easy Life If Me And He Were To Get There’ and ‘Jesus Hairdo’.

Beggars Arkive will release Up To Our Hips – 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition on November 8, 2024.
