The Charlatans have today announced the release of their twelfth album, Modern Nature. It’s out on BMG Chrysalis on January 26 2015, and the band will be putting out the next single from the album – following the Quietus Phonographic Corporation’s recent release of LP opener ‘Talking In Tones’ (listen at the foot of the piece) – ‘So Oh’ on December 1; have a listen above.
The album is their first since drummer and founding member Jon Brookes passed away from brain cancer last year. As keyboardist Tony Rogers explains, "Jon was adamant that there was going to be another Charlatans record, and you have to put that into your own thoughts", with the band heading to their Big Mushroom studio in Cheshire to put it together in January of this year. The band self-produced the album, which also features Kate Bush’s backing singers, Melanie Marshall and Sandra Marvin, brass from Big Jim Paterson of Dexys and string arrangements from Sean O’Hagan, while the band drew on not one but three drummers, Stephen Morris of New Order, Gabriel Gurnsey of Factory Floor and Pete Salisbury of The Verve. It’s the latter who’ll be joining the band as they head on tour next March for an eight-date tour of the UK (see below), following tonight’s sold-out single launch gig at The Garage in London; head to the band’s website for tickets and to put in an pre-order for the album.
