Just over two years ago, Leyland James Kirby set out on the final project of his alias The Caretaker with the ambitious idea of mirroring the stages of developing dementia through music.
Everywhere At The End Of Time began in late 2016 and four stages have since followed. Today sees the release of ‘Stage Six’ of the project, the last from The Caretaker. The previous stage saw Kirby document what he called the ‘post-awareness’ phases of dementia, describing it as one of ‘confusion and horror’.
This final stage comes with no additional release notes as the project reaches its end. You can listen to ‘Stage Six’ in full above, and purchase a vinyl or digital copy here.
All six volumes have also been collected in one handy CD and digital collection which can be purchased here.
Today’s final instalment also comes with a very final free release titled Everywhere, an empty bliss. It’s available to stream and download directly from Kirby’s Bandcamp page here. Kirby describes it thusly: "A free release available only till June the 16th. Archival based and created for an upcoming Caretaker/Ivan Seal exhibition at FRAC Auvergne, opening April 7th and running till June 16th. A sound work based mainly on unreleased works will be mixed throughout the space."
