The Breeders’ Kim Deal Shares New Track, ‘Coast’

The track was recorded by the late Steve Albini at his Electric Audio studio

The Breeders singer and guitarist Kim Deal has released a new solo single, ‘Coast’.

Marking Deal’s first solo release for 4AD under her own name, the track, which you can listen to below, was recorded by the late Steve Albini at his Electric Audio studio in Chicago. It features guest contributions from Deal’s twin sister, Kelley Deal, as well as marching band Mucca Pazza, and a rhythm section in the form of Lindsay Glover and Mando Lopez.

Deal wrote the song back in 2020, having taken inspiration from the house band at her friend’s wedding, The Grape Whizzers, and their cover of Jimmy Buffett’s ‘Margaritaville’.

Deal has released past solo music under different names, most notably in the form of a 7-inch singles series that ran from 2013 to 2014. She has also devoted much of the past decade to her band The Breeders over the past decade, reuniting their classic lineup after leaving Pixies as their long-serving bassist.

‘Coast’ is out now on 4AD.
