The Afghan Whigs will release a new album this September.
Titled How Do You Burn?, the 10-track record is the band’s first in five years, following 2017’s Sub Pop-released In Spades, and their third since first reforming in 2012. The group started work on the album in September 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of frontman Greg Dulli’s planned tour in support of solo record Random Desire.
Parts of the record were recorded remotely between California, Cincinnati, New Jersey and New Orleans due to the band being apart during the pandemic. The late Mark Lanegan, who was a close friend of the band, contributed backing vocals to two of the record’s tracks, appearing on music by the band for the first time. It was Lanegan who named the album, according to Dulli. You can listen to a new track from the record, ‘A Line Of Shots’, above. It follows on from the album cut ‘I’ll Make You See God’, which was given a standalone release at the start of this year.
Royal Cream / BMG will release How Do You Burn? on September 9, 2022.
