Canadian Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq unveils 'Toothsayer', the title track to her new EP

Throat singer Tanya Tagaq is to release a new EP this Friday (March 1). Streaming above is the EP’s title track ‘Toothsayer’.

it’s the second track to be unveiled from the five-track EP, which has been put together for use in the National Maritime Museum’s ‘Polar Worlds’ exhibition in London. The EP sees Tagaq combine her distinctive vocals with electroacoustic instrumentation, pianos and ambient synths. She also teams up with percussionist Jean Martin, who produced the EP, while Ash Koosha features on two tracks.

"I named this Toothsayer because I always liked the term soothsayer, to look into the future and to speak wisely," Tagaq explains. "Teeth represent protection and hunting in nature. We are going to have to get our fists up and our teeth out to carve our way to survival in this world."

Six Shooter Records will release Toothsayer on March 1. Tagaq will play live at London venue The Borderline on March 27. You can find details here.
