A Kickstarter campaign for a new documentary on Swans has reached its initial $45,000 funding goal within just four days.
The film, Where Does A Body End?, was conceived by filmmaker Marco Porsia, who previously produced and directed live DVD concert films for the band’s albums The Seer and The Glowing Man.
As well as his own collection of live Swans material filmed since their reunion in 2010, Porsia was also granted access to an extensive archive of live tapes and never before seen home videos from their early years.
The likes of Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, Savages’ Jenny Beth and tQ’s own John Doran are among those interviewed for the film as well as members of Swans past and present.
Aiming to tell the ‘complete story of Swans’, Porsia says on the Kickstarter: "As Swans in its current incarnation, it’s most powerful and intense to date, approaches its ‘end’, it will also detail a comprehensive look at the entire history of the band beginning in the early 80’s with interviews from key musicians and band members. The aim is to help cement the band and its music in their rightful place in the annals of history.’
The film is aiming for completion by the end of the year. You can still donate to the project, and follow Porsia’s campaign in full <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1000942931/where-does-a-body-end-a-documentary-on-the-band-sw/description” target="out">here.
