WATCH: Video For Unreleased Susumu Yokota

'The Future of Ecstasy' features amongst a new collection of previously unreleased material from the late ambient producer

Next month, London-based label Lo Recordings will release Cloud Hidden, a new collection of previously unreleased and unheard music by the late Japanese producer Susumu Yokota.

A widely-respected figure in the ambient music world who also delved into techno and house music, he passed away five years ago and this collection marks the first full-length release of music by him since his death. Above, you can watch a video for one of the previously unreleased tracks called ‘The Future of Ecstasy’.

The release itself came about following the discovery of a DAT tape by Mark Beazley (who’d worked with Yokota on the Rothko/Yokota collaborative EP Rivers Edge) containing unreleased tracks and early sketch versions of tracks that formed his 2002 album The Boy and the Tree. Mark had no recollection of why or when he was sent the tape.

Beazley sent the tracks to Lo Recordings founder Jon Tye who says he "decided to do [his] best to honour the spirit and legacy of Yokota’s work by completing the tracks in a way which [he] thought he would approve". Lo Recordings had put out a number of Yokota’s records before his death.

Lo Recordings will release Cloud Hidden on October 18.
