Surgeon Reveals New Album For Tresor, ‘Crash Recoil’

It marks Anthony Child's first techno LP in five years

Surgeon has a new album on the way through Berlin label Tresor.

Spanning eight tracks, Crash Recoil sees the DJ and producer, real name Anthony Child, draw on experiments that he undertook during live sets in recent years, following a period of uncertainty around his role as a techno producer. It marks his first techno LP in five years. You can listen to the album’s opening track, ‘Oak Bank’, just below.

"This is not a live album, since it has not been recorded in one go during a live performance," Child said in a statement about the record. "In the same way that bands tour songs before going into the studio to record an album, I was able to explore these songs and hone their effectiveness during my live performances before creating a studio version. I can hear Coil, King Tubby, Detroit techno and The Cure all wrapped up with 30 years of DJing."

Tresor is also lining up a reissue of Surgeon’s album Force + Form on double vinyl and digital formats, which will be available from April 21. Originally released in 1999, the album was Child’s third for Tresor, following on from landmark records Basictonalvocabulary and Balance.

Tresor will release Crash Recoil on March 17, 2023.
