Supersonic: More New Acts Announced

Birmingham festival, from 19th-21st October, hots up with new names including Hype Williams and Ufomammut (pictured)

As we previously reported, Supersonic Festival, which runs from 19th-21st October, is starting to look like a devilishly good prospect indeed. Today they’ve announced a new crop of names, bolstering the line-up for this special 10th edition of the festival into even more eclectic territory than before.

First in the list of new additions is former Swans member and iconic musician in her own right Jarboe, who fresh from making a guest appearance on the new Swans album will be performing solo. Also added are Hype Williams, aka Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland, the shady Hyperdub-signed duo whose sublow experiments take them through the realms of pop, dub, grime and more.

Quietus favourites and the finest of Italy’s 4,777 metal bands Ufomammut will also be performing, set to lay waste to the festival in the wake of the release of their two part ORO album. Other regulars on the Quietus stereo and in our gig diaries, Australian crew My Disco will also be bringing their taut, obliquely danceable grooves, making like a midnight techno Shellac.

Also added to the list are Japanese noise legend Merzbow, Chicago’s Kevin Drumm, PCM, Clifford Torus, Drunk In Hell, Hookworks, Hey Colossus, Thomas Ankersmit, KK Null, Ruins Alone, Richard Dawson, Stian Westerus, SWLLWS and Warm Digits (phew).

They join a line-up that also includes Body/Head, Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore, Dylan Carlson, Flower-Corsano Duo, Six Organs Of Admittance, JK Flesh and Tim Hecker, among others.

They all make for a line-up that’s one of the most adventurous, wide-ranging and interesting we’ve seen this year – somewhat fittingly for their tenth birthday edition. As well as drawing in established scene lynchpins and special performances from legendary types, there’s also a fair scattering of new music and upcoming artists we’ve been keen to support – the likes of My Disco, Hype Williams and Ufomammut have been among our favourite acts, both live and on record, of the last couple of years, and it’s great to see them on the line-up.

As with last year, we’ve joined up with the festival as media partners, so expect to spot members of the Quietus team across the course of the weekend, usually being battered senseless by waves of riff and bass.
