Sun Ra’s 1978 Album ‘Lanquidity’ To Be Reissued

The original album will be presented alongside alternative mixes in a new box set

Strut is reissuing Sun Ra’s 1978 album Lanquidity.

Set for release on digital formats, as well as on CD and in a 4xLP box set, the reissue takes in the original album as well as alternative mixes by Bob Blank that were originally given a limited release for a 1978 Sun Ra Arkestra gig at Georgia Tech in the US. You can listen to the alternate mix of ‘Twin Stars Of Thence’ above.

Lanquidity was originally recorded overnight at Bob Blank’s Blank Tapes studio in New York after the Arkestra had appeared on Saturday Night Live. Speaking about the recording, Blank says: "Musically, it was very ad hoc and freeform. There were horn charts but most tracks came out of improvised jams. Sun Ra just did his thing."

Strut will release Lanquidity on May 28, 2021.
