Original Sugababes Reform

Now re-christened Mutya Keisha Siobhan

At the start of this year, we reported that there were rumours that the original three Sugababes – Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy – had been working together again.

At the time nothing ever came of those whispers, but now the original source for that story, Popjustice, report that they have indeed reformed. In fact, the site have gone one better and interviewed the trio, excepts from which you can read here.

Thanks to the eventual replacement of all three original Sugababes members in the official band, they aren’t allowed to use their original moniker (Mutya reportedly owns the rights to Sugababes stationery, but that’s about it). So they’re instead going under the self-explanatory name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, and, say Popjustice, the music is Officially Not Shit.

The reunion apparently almost happened in 2009, when the three originally met up not long after Buchanan had left the Sugababes. However, they decided to put making any new music on hold for the time being, eventually beginning to work together again last year.

A minor victory for halfway decent pop music? (‘Overload’ was, after all, a bloody great tune). Or destined to fizzle into nothing? The answer remains to be seen – the jury will still be out until any new music makes its way into the world. Until then…
