Steve Reich Open-Air Concert

Special event to take place at Liverpool's Edge Hill station to celebrate feat of train travel

In September audiences will be invited to Liverpool’s Edge Hill station to mark the site from which the first ever train passengers travelled between two cities in September 1830.

They were destined for Manchester and now the event at Edge Hill station will celebrate that with an open-air performance of Steve Reich’s Different Trains. The performance will invite audiences “to reflect upon the impact of the invention of train travel and the role it went on to play during World War II and the formation on the modern world”. The performance will also take place just days before Reich celebrates his 80th birthday.

In order to ensure the event goes ahead, organisers have set up a Kickstarter campaign with different donations offering various rewards including event tickets, signed posters, original artwork and more. The project is presented by the Metal organisation in partnership with Southbank Centre, Liverpool Biennial and Culture Liverpool.
