The late Steve Albini is getting a street named in his honour in Chicago, the city that was his longtime home.
The 2600-2700 block of West Belmont Avenue in the Avondale area, which houses Albini’s Electrical Audio studio, will now be known as Steve Albini Way, thanks to an ordinance passed by Chicago City Council member Carlos Ramirez-Rosa. The two-studio Electrical Audio complex has stood there since the late musician and recording engineer opened it in 1997.
Albini was born in Pasadena, California, and raised in Missoula, Montana, but relocated to Chicago for university and lived in the city until his death earlier this year. He had been deeply embedded in the local music scene throughout that time, playing shows and setting up the aforementioned Electrical Audio.
The artist passed away in May of this year after suffering a heart attack.
