Stereolab have shared details of their first studio album in 15 years, titled Instant Holograms On Metal Film.

Spanning 13 tracks, the record was written by the group’s Laetitia Sadier and Tim Gane, and performed by the pair together with Andy Ramsay, Joe Watson and Xavi Muñoz, who currently form the band’s touring lineup.

There are also guest contributions on the album from Bitchin’ Bajas’ Cooper Crain and Rob Frye; Ben LaMar Gay; and Cavern Of Anti-Matter’s Holger Zapf, among others.

Prior to the official announcement of the new record, Stereolab teased new music in the form of a 7-inch single featuring lead track ‘Aerial Troubles’, which was sent to select subscribers to the band’s Lab Report newsletter last week. In addition to the song, the package – labeled “Unsolicited Stereolab Material” – also included a word search featuring hints to a new full-length record.

In 2019, the band released expanded and remastered editions of seven of their studio albums, and also resumed touring for the first time in nine years. Two compilations featuring rare and previously unreleased material followed in 2021 and 2022. Instant Holograms On Metal Film will be their first release of all-new material since 2010’s Not Music.

Duophonic UFH Disks / Warp Records will release Instant Holograms On Metal Film on May 23, 2025.
