Stereolab have shared details of the fifth instalment in their Switched On archive compilation series.
The latest volume, Pulse Of The Early Brain, takes in 21 tracks, covering previously unreleased cuts, demos and limited edition singles that date from the ’90s through to the mid-’00s. Among the previously unreleased material is the original recording of 2005 track ‘Plastic Mile’, a track written for a Charles Long sculpture called ‘Robot Riot’ (which you can listen to just below), and a live version of the group’s 1996 track ‘Cybele’s Reverie’, which was captured at The Hollywood Bowl in 2014.
Other tracklist highlights highlights include two collaborations with Nurse With Wound and an Autechre remix of 1997 track ‘Refractions In The Plastic Pulse’. The compilation will be released digitally, and in 3xLP and 2xCD sets – the latter two will be the only editions to include all 21 tracks.
Pulse Of The Early Brain follows on from last year’s Electrically Possessed, which was the fourth volume in the Switched On series. The run of releases first began in 2018.
Warp Records / Duophonic UHF Disks will release Pulse Of The Early Brain on September 2, 2022.
