LISTEN: Spatial Mix For Colony

Listen to a mix of skewed, subby house and techno from Spatial, in advance of Colony vs. Broken20 party next week

As we’ve previously reported London promoters Colony are set to host another of their always-enjoyable parties next Friday, 15th March. This one takes place in Stoke Newington’s Waiting Room and finds them teaming up with Scottish label Broken20, which has been responsible for some of the best electronic music to come out of the UK in the last few years, from techno to drone, ambient and more.

The night features an impressive array of guests: label boss TVO alongside fellow Broken20 heads Production Unit and Erstlaub (both playing live), Manchester’s techno deconstructionists Szare, London’s Spatial and Colony’s own Tengui. The night is rounded off by Colony DJs and the Quietus’ Rory Gibb and Luke Turner, who will be DJing music of an appropriately dark and propulsive persuasion.

The night is a joint gig/club type affair, running from 8pm-4am. Tickets are £5 adv/£6 on the door, and are available here.

In advance of the party, Spatial – who over the last few years has become renowned for his angular and sub-driven takes on house, techno and garage rhythms (for more, visit his website) – has recorded a great mix for Colony’s ongoing mix series. It features an array of the kind of sounds you can expect to hear from him on the night: darkened and percussive techno from Fishermen, Skudge, Truss, Ike Release and a fair scattering of material of his own. In addition, keep your eyes peeled for an in-depth interview with TVO’s Ruaridh Law next week, around the release of his and Covered In Sand’s excellent new album Red Night Variations.
