Soundgarden are set to reissue their 1988 debut album Ultramega OK.
The record, a seminal release for grunge’s nascence and growth in the ’90s, will be re-released in a remixed and extended package on March 10 via Sub Pop, who the band were initially signed to in 1987 for their first two EPs, Screaming Life and Fopp.
The band had intentions to remix the album shortly after its release in 1988 through SST records owing to dissatisfaction with the final product. However, signing a deal with major label A&M records and commencing work on their second LP, Louder Than Love, halted proceedings.
Now the band have taken the chance to recreate the record with a fresh vigour and sheen. Also included in the reissue are six early versions of tracks from the album which were recorded in 1987 with the help of producer Jack Endino and Chris Hanzsek. These raw versions of the album tracks make up what the band refer to as the Ultramega EP.
Following a 13-year hiatus, during which Chris Cornell had lead Audioslave and had a fruitful solo career, Soundgarden released King Animal to generally favourable reviews. The Ultramega OK reissue can pre-ordered
