As we’ve previously reported, this year’s edition of Barcelona’s annual Sonar festival – which takes place from 12th-14th June – has already gathered an impressive array of artists for its line-up. Names announced to date include the likes of Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman, Oneohtrix Point Never, Evian Christ, Laurel Halo, Massive Attack, Chic and Despacio.
Now they’ve announced another clutch of artists, to complete the bill. They’re headed up by Quietus favourites Chris & Cosey – whose recent performances have put a powerful, punishingly physical technoid slant on their classic material from the 80s and beyond – alongside Simian Mobile Disco, pianist Nils Frahm, and a back-to-back DJ session between James Holden and Daphni, aka Caribou’s Dan Snaith, which will doubtless be worth catching.
The rest of the added names are varied, ranging from Canada producer Ryan Hemsworth, to US house (Octo Octa), grime (Elijah & Skilliam, following the upcoming release of their Fabriclive CD, and fellow Butterz associate Flava D), LA beats (Tokimonsta) and the supercharged kuduro of Portugal’s Buraka Som Sistema. Elsewhere the festival will showcase a range of names from the Spanish music scene, including Nev.Era, Pina, Sunny Graves, Discos Paradiso Crew and more.
